Getting back to where You belong –

MORNING DEVOTIONAL – JEREMIAH 29      (today’s focus Jeremiah 29:1

Getting back to where You belong –

As a practice of discipline every year I choose a verse or two and establish that as the core verse for my life and the ministries which I shepherd. For this year I have chosen Jeremiah 29:11-13—

This morning as I rise at 5:00 AM I am realizing the need to be back closer than ever to the heart of God. A place full of all that God wants to do for me. Wait !!  did I just say I was going to submit to what God wants for me. Instead of what I want for myself or even demand God to do for me.

Jeremiah 29 opens with the words “This is the text of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the other surviving elders among the exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the other people Nebuchadnezzar had carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. “ (Jeremiah 29:1)

Upon reading these words, I was humbled, drawn to the understanding that God does truly desire the best for his people. The desire of God to give instruction to the exiles, to all of the exiles and people searching, comforted me to realize God really does desire to be in relationship with me. That God does care for me and want the very best God relationship with me.

Will this mean the need to return to the faith that formed us, the desire to be in the all the time of presence of God, or does this mean I will continue to treating my relationship with God based on need, my need.

Today God is sending us all instruction on how to get back to where we belong. It belongs in the quiet of the morning, meditating upon a verse of scripture and praying :

Lord, I submit to you, bring me back to where I belong, within your presence, cared for by you, loved by you and renewed by your everlasting Spirit at live within me. May I have the courage to pray – have your way, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
