From the Edges – When did the trouble start?

From the Edges – Morning Devotional

When did the Trouble Start –

Scripture focus – Jeremiah 29:15-19

In the middle of Jeremiah 29 at verse 15 we start to see a shift. It is almost like we live in this gooey, fuzzy, warm feeling relationship where we feel the assurance from God that everything will be OK. Then it seems that the next verses read for the people to not get too excited by all this good, because there are a few things that you are going to need to keep that warm, fuzzy feeling surrounding you.

The question arises, does this mean the pathway will not always be rose petals strewn and glimpses of Lolli pops and puppy dogs? I am going to have to do something to keep this relationship going. I am going to have to put effort into this relationship. That there has now arisen “sword, famine, plague” brought on by the Lord. Wait a minute, slam on the brakes! This God who has been the great provider is suddenly now causing some disparity to these people whom God has said are the chosen. Why?

The why here is when we begin to see where the trouble started. We do not need to look very far into the pages of Genesis to see where the trouble started. We do not have to look very far into humanity’s history to see that the trouble began when people chose their own way, did their own thing, sought their own desires and the list continues and continues to today to our days and times of trouble.

Please don’t miss the point – God says through the prophet Jeremiah in verse 19 “for they (the people – us) have not listened to my words”. The need to hear and receive and expound on the word of God.

But we should not despair as the earlier verse reminds – there will be a need of the people to not only feel God’s presence which is promised but a return to prayer, realizing God’s presence, and the fulfillment of God’s grace in our lives.

Be reminded that neither frustration, physical, plaques sickness, problems, discord, war, famine, or anything else can break communion with the Lord. It will take effort on our part to “seek the Lord with our everything.”

Praying today – from Psalm 119 verses 137-144 – You are righteous Lord and your laws are right and fully trustworthy. I confess my zeal wears me out. I pray for those who ignore your words. I will love your promises that have been tested and lived out in my life. Regardless of what happens, I will find my delight in you. Give me understanding that I may live. May my prayer and conversation with you be unceasing. In Jesus holy name – I pray
