Preparing our hearts for Worship
WORSHIP IS
Scripture focus – Proverbs 2:1-11
Through the night I kept hearing Proverbs 2. I thought it strange and questioned the Lord “But don’t you know today is the day my devotion centers around preparing for Worship. Again, I heard “Proverbs 2”. “OK Lord” I responded, “I’ll think about it” and drifted back off to sleep. Every moment that I woke up to see what time it was and when I could expect the alarm to set off the new day, I heard clearly “Proverbs 2”. My responses were curt of course, “OK, Lord I get it”.
I finally gave in, getting up before the alarm, making my coffee all the while hearing “Proverbs 2”. Finally in my place of devotion, because I knew I had to follow through – I gave in and read Proverbs 2 and Proverbs 1, 3 and 4 as well.
“Really Lord? – This is all about gaining Wisdom, prospering, following instruction, self-improvement, being closer to God than to the world. What does it have to do with preparing my heart for Worship?”
Again, I heard the Spirit speak to my soul “Read, hear, pray, Proverbs 2”. Here is what I am hearing the Spirit speak through Proverbs 2:1-11 as I prepare my heart for Worship –
• Enter into God’s presence, claim Sanctuary and accept the Lord’s teachings.
• Leave the world and its teaching to receive the Lord’s teachings through scripture, music, the spoken word, holy fellowship and showing and receiving agape love.
• In worship find and receive “good” insight and “good” instruction then you will receive “good” wisdom. For it will be from the Lord you receive.
I am humbled – I only hope that through this time of preparation for Worship and through the speaking of God’s holy word that I might as Proverbs 3:3 directs “Let love and faithfulness never leave you, bind them around your neck write them on the tablet of your heart.”
