LENT – DAY 2 – Fighting Won Battles –

Pastor Calvin Cook

Scripture focus – 1 John 4:4 (NLT) “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.”

Recently our Praise Team sang the song “You’ve Already One”. A line in the song “I’m fighting a battle You’ve already won” keeps sounding off in my head. These words are drawing me in to Sanctuary this morning.

Causing me to consider the battles that have been won on my behalf by Jesus. Jesus has already defeated everything that we allow to consume us. Instead of seeking repentance and moving on we keep fighting, struggling, lamenting, worrying over and over again of the same situations.

The good news for us is the battle has been won! But…… we continue to fight, claw, and scream when the battle hasn’t been won according to our desires. The purest way to leave this state is going to be through sacrifice. Being willing to let go. This is whole focus of the season of Lent – letting Go and letting God.

The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy about this very thing in 1 Timothy 6:11-12 “…….. flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

May our prayer be today –

Lord help to flee from:

Lord directs me in the path of righteousness:

Lord renew me according to your will – Amen
