A Worship Devotional – From the Edges – The Misplaced Heart of Worship

From the Edges – Morning Devotions
On Saturday we focus on preparing our hearts for Worship.
Lent – Day 10 – The Misplaced Heart of Worship February 24, 2024
Scripture focus – Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. “

I lose stuff. Not intentionally, but I lose stuff. I thought of good spots to put something to place for safe keeping and soon have forgotten where that place is. Sometimes we suddenly remember where it was placed by retracing steps. Sometimes though we place something so securely so un- rememberable that we can’t find it until we accidentally come upon it, sometimes after we have taken action to replace that which we think lost.

In 2009, Gail and I moved into the Parsonage at Fertigs I placed all our car keys someplace that I thought was safe in chaos of moving, after realizing that I could not find or remember what I had done with the keys we called a locksmith to come and make new ones. When we moved from Fertigs to Kane in 2016 and were cleaning out the garage the keys were found. The cars were gone, traded but the keys were found.

As I thought about how to prepare for worship, I was reminded of this incident. Thought about how we enter worship not remembering the important things we have lost. The things we had once had. We then allow worship to be routine and habit and we don’t come with a sense of expectation to how God because of drawing us in will renew and hopefully by God’s spirit lead us to where we need to be.

The verse I share this morning from Hebrews reminds us that as we come to Worship, we can’t expect the same thing done the same way to be what guides us. We must be expectant that this worship for those who will earnestly seek to be God’s presence will change us, even reward us because we haven’t been concerned of what we have lost from what the world offers but instead receive what God wants to pour into our heart.

The lesson of the lost keys should apply to us today as we prepare for worship. To not allow the pieces of our faith to which we think are lost to be forgotten or we quit searching for them. The keys were not lost just maybe misplaced. Moving from the clutter of life into the heart of God for worship will help us recover that which we think is lost. God hasn’t changed and you haven’t lost the faithfulness, you’ve maybe misplaced it and replaced it with something else. The seed of faith that was planted in your heart is still there waiting to be cared for, nurtured, fertilized to grow into the beautiful creation God has created you to be.

Come and Worship and experience God.
