From the Edges – Morning Devotional 2-27-24

LENT – Day 12 —— WHERE is HERE –
Scripture focus – Exodus 3
I woke up this morning thinking about Moses. Not really Moses but the call that God placed on Moses. Comparing it to my own life and the call that God is placing on the lives of others. Maybe it is because I have been stalled almost in understanding why the Israelites didn’t want to or had reservations about moving into the promised land. I thought about others who I know are very gifted and ready to move into the promised land, but yet something is holding them back. By admission, there is always something holding me back also, most of the time it is me.
Something I became keenly aware of recently was that God truly does want to give us the best life, not just in eternity but in this world also. I really believe this from the examples of Deuteronomy 8 where we spent time last week. But…….(there is that word again) we can’t, don’t or won’t experience it because of our human mindset. We remain the same, unchanged, talking a good talk, but not necessarily walking the way God ask us to walk and being the people who God created us to be.
I mean there are moments of revelation where we say “this is my breakthrough moment” this is “my take a new direction moment” but yet we don’t or won’t, it is not because we can’t because when trusting in God and believing in God’s power nothing will be impossible. (Luke 1:37).
Yet we lean into our own human condition, follow our own desires, and do our own thing – not believing not trusting in the promised land that has been available if we remain faithful.
Exodus 3 is the call of Moses directly by God, only the two of them in this story. Yes, Moses tries to drag excuses, situations and even people into why he can’t answer the call and do what God wants of him and his talents.
As I thought on these things this morning the words from Exodus 3:4 “When the Lord saw that Moses was coming closer, he called to him from the middle of the bush and said, “Moses! Moses!” He answered, “Yes, here I am.” (GNT) really hit me. When God calls to us and we respond “Here I am” do we really mean it? Or is it what we have been programed to say when God calls without any or little thought about what it means to be ready and available to serve the Lord. To move into the fullness of God and experience God in a way that God desires.
Why do we have so much trouble, experience so much difficulty, and the Holy Spirit is speaking this to me this morning “It is because you have not yet understood “Here I Am” “
