LENT – DAY 24 – Another Day –
Scripture focus – Psalm 91: 1-6
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say[a] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
I woke up this morning at my normal time 4:30 and took a few minutes to breath in the newness of the morning and tried to adjust to what the day might hold. In the stillness of the morning, I immediately was taken over with the many blessings and benefits experience. I woke in a nice comfortable bed, probably more than half the world has. I am surrounded by a wife who loves me, family and friends who care about me, food to eat, more luxuries than I deserve or probably need. If I could stay in this shelter all day what an easy life it would be. Maybe someday, probably not but I can hope!
Then the fear and requirements of the day started to invade this sacred place. As God is always working in the midst of everything the song – “You’ve Already Won” by Shane and Shane started to fill my heart. The words “I’m fighting a battle that you have already won” kept swirling, circling, until I felt the need to surrender it all.
Doesn’t this speak to our life of faith. We fight, figure, even try to outperform and out think God. We get caught up in everything that we fail to remember that in the midst of the battle it is being won. At least for those who trust in the care of God and that God will always make a way. The words from the opening verses of Psalm 91 reminds us of what we can come to expect in a relationship with God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that speaks to us about sincere faith and commitment but more importantly the invitation to move into that shelter where we will find refuge and care.
Verses 9&10 continue. “Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place the Most High, who is my refuge – no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent”
I long for that place knowing that is available.
