From the Edges – Morning Devotions
Pastor Calvin Cook
LENT – DAY 25 – REMINDED – 3-13-2024
Scripture focus – Philippians 2:1-8 ‘So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. ‘
I feel like I have nothing to offer this morning. I asked that God would show the way and remind me of my purpose. I prayed to the Lord reveal to me what it is I need for today to take on the day, accomplish my goals, and feel that I am being made complete.
The Holy Spirit directed me to Philippians this morning. Philippians has always been the go-to readings in scripture in times of seeking direction and the will of God. This morning was no different. You can read Philippians in about 15 minutes.
The highlighted scripture this morning from Philippians 2 reminded me of where I should be receiving my encouragement from and that is Christ the Lord. I should be striving to be in made full and complete not by my own wants, desires, plans or even my earthly hopes but made complete in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Our interest should be to glorify God with all that we do. Are we doing that? Our goal should be to share Jesus and the power of the Gospel with everyone not just in word but in action. Today we are being equipped to face the tribulation we will all encounter, all that God has given us through Jesus death on the cross and the encounter with the Holy Spirit is here, are we claiming it?
Maybe instead of trying to turn everything back to us. Releasing these things of the world, emptying ourselves and taking on the humility of Christ Jesus.
WOW – I might not have felt I had a lot to say or offer this morning, but the Holy Spirit has much to say to me and you. Maybe we can find humility in listening.
