About this week’s From the Edges Devotionals –
This past weekend I spent some time in some deep reflection along with nearly 200 young people at the Way Maker Conference at Camp Alleghany in Somerset County, PA. There were 8 young people from our Church and Community that joined with the other participants in this great ministry by United Johnstown to the young people in the Johnstown PA. This ministry is not about denominations, politics, socio-economic reference, or anything else it is about revealing the truth found in scripture to this generation who are being called into adulthood and responsibility to their community but more importantly answering the call placed on their life by Jesus. The reason they and other young people are responding is because of the continual effort of mentoring, prayerful care and a great move of the Holy Spirit.
My desire is for this next generation to realize that a relationship with God doesn’t have to be what we have been conditioned to accept as relationship, but a general surrender of self to Jesus, avoiding the distractions and divisiveness of what the world and a counter cultural to all things holy and righteousness teaches against. This is my prayer and hope for all generations, all ages, all races, all people everywhere.
I am excited what the Holy Spirit is unfolding to me in these post hours of the Way Maker Conference and retreating away from the distractions of the world into the peace of Jesus. I also believe and feel confirmation for all things that God will make a way through everything that I am dealing with in Pastoring, Business, Personal Relationships, Finances, and etc. etc. and this applies to you as well.
Another thing that happened this week was a visit back to Jennerstown Church where Gail and I found great comfort and care from the church there in the early days of our marriage. There was a community of mentors, care givers, even challengers that helped Gail and I personally to be the couple and the person I am today.
Many of the faces we knew and appreciated are now cheering us on from the halls of the faithful. I give thanks for their mentorship and love they showed us. It was, however, refreshing to my soul to see others there who were so important to us and offered love in many times and situations when we were probably unlovable. I was able to see two of my brothers in Christ, Randy and John, who continually sat with me and others as we walked through life’s struggles together and prayed through some of the most difficult situations of life for all of us.
Well, my expectations of the weekend were met, so much more was added. The Holy Spirit through the speakers, I don’t remember where or who spoke the words “Push out into the deep” (Luke 5:4). These words have circulated through me on the drive home and into the evening. For the next few days, I will be sharing some thoughts while Seeking Jesus – From the Edges from Luke 5, beginning with tomorrow’s devotional. It is certainly my hope and prayer that you are blessed by these devotionals as I am attempting to pick up the baton and finish the race with faithfulness to what I feel God is calling me to. Join me as we gain a new understanding as to what it means to “push out into the deep” .
See you in a few hours. Praying God reveals new truths to us in our sleep and we awake refreshed for the journey we are on as we Seek Jesus From the Edges.
