Push Out into the Deep

DAY 10 – The Forgiveness

Scripture focus – Luke 5: 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”’

I have shared with you often that one of the main songs that I listen to each day is “Heart of Worship”. It is not a song to me about being genuine in worship though I believe it to be so important and one of the first things we must get straight in our lives. A line in in the song “I’m sorry Lord for the things I’ve made it” I think these words so important for each of us and does not only speak to what we have tried worship out to be, but our relationship, our being, our moving into the deep in our faith and all we are about.

This morning, I thought once again about the situation that Simon Peter was experiencing as he submitted and trusted in Jesus.

Following the miraculous catch of fish, Simon Peter had to confess that he had sinned by not trusting, by not listening, by not being an expectant believer in what Jesus could and would do. Expecting the fulfillment of God’s promises begins with a realization that God can and will do many amazing acts.

The confession of our sinfulness in all things becomes a gateway for us to realize truly what God is doing and how we receive these acts of mercy in our life. When Simon Peter and the other disciples realized this catch, they could have taken the attitude that this was to glorify them. We think sometimes that is how God is working. Just to make us happy and feel good about ourselves. But there is so much more, always has been, always will be. The description of God’s love is usually followed by a call of repentance, to turn from our evil ways, to move from being bent on sinning into all that God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit desire for us. The greater question is do we receive with an open and penitent heart all that God is desiring to do through us first saying I acknowledge my sinfulness.

My prayer this morning comes from the closing verses of 2 Chronicles 5, when the priest realized that they could do nothing because the presence and glory of the Lord had showed up filling their lives and situations. My prayer is that this happens in every situation today, in everything that our surrender means redemption that leads to revival and renewal.

God is good and God’s love will endure forever!
