Bridled

Scripture focus Psalm 32:8-9 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.”

Continuing with the thoughts that we were having yesterday about the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In my prayer life I’m trying to move from just lifting petitions, where we pray for health and wealth, comes the need to be praying for spiritual direction. Not just the direction we receive from others, or from instruction outside the realm of being a Christ follower. We must first ask is the direction we are receiving sound scripturally and is it taking us or leading us to the place that we need to be in our relationship with Christ.

Recently I have been drawn apart to pray for direction, realizing that in that prayer, there are many distractions to keep us from experiencing the fullness of God. As I was reading from Psalms this morning, I came upon our scripture focus from Psalm 32:8-9. The analogy used is that we can’t expect a horse to know which way to go at the direction of the rider without a bridle. I can remember from my days of riding horses that the bridal is of the upmost importance, and that there are different types of bridals to get the horse to go where it needs to go. So it is with us, we have different bridals that are guiding and directing us. Some of those bridals are leading us to places and giving us direction that will cause further harm to our heart mind and soul. However, when we are bridled by the direction of the Holy Spirit, it will lead us to the place that God wants us to be.

How do we receive this bridal. We receive it through the indwelling even the baptism of the Holy Spirit. By full submission and submersion into God’s will through the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit working in and through us we will have a constant guidance of where God is calling us to be.

May we be reminded of the words of Psalm 32:8“. I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. I will counsel you with my eyes upon you.” As we go through this day as we go through life, may we pray for the guidance and the direction of God through the presence of the Holy Spirit in the present so that we might be guided into the direction of righteousness. May this submission not only change who we are but who we are becoming.
