Holy Spirit Leading – From the Edges – Morning Devotions

From the Edges – Morning Devotions

Pastor Calvin Cook – 5-25-24

Scripture focus – Galatians 5: 25-26 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

This morning my thoughts are on processing the teaching, preaching, and council from some very spirit filled brothers and sisters in Christ. For the last three days I along with nearly 1000 others have attended the Alleghany West Provisional Conference of the Global Methodist Church. My heart has been drawn to hearing the words guiding me to surrender, forgiveness, receiving forgiveness, and living up to the expectations of God for our lives. I realize that we all hear in very different ways. Thanking the goodness of God that the Spirit does speak to each of us in different ways.

One of the other recurring thoughts has been that we can’t go back. When we have been to the mountain, when we have received the prevenient grace that has been offered, we must become very aware we can’t go back. We can not keep allowing the burdens sins in our lives like jealousy, anger, animosity, hatefulness, prejudice, covertness, pride, slothfulness, and so much more be what guides us. If we have been to the mountain we need to keep everything that we have gathered as part of our journey.  I notice the hikers on the trails around home carry very little with them, other than what will keep them safe and healthy, the essentials of the journey.

I know that the words I share or speak are easy and living it out is the difficult part. I want to share just a couple of prayer points with you today.

Forgive me Lord for the things I have made it – you know what the it is.

Forgive me Lord when I have come with my own agenda.

Forgive me Lord when I have not surrendered the things that bind me.

Forgive me Lord, when I have spoken but not allowed myself to live up to my words.

Forgive me Lord, when I have not believed, trusted, and followed as I should have.

Take me back Lord to the place where I realize I owe it all to you.
