Spirit controlled Success –
Scripture focus – Judges 3:7-11
When it comes to facing challenges in our life we have two ways in which we can go. Either through these challenges we can be drawn closer to God with a better understanding of faith and trust. Or we can choose to go the other way, distancing ourselves from God and slipping into a desperate way of life.
In the book of Judges in the Old Testament there is a recurring pattern of the Israelites following the way of disobedience which brought more distress into their lives. They embraced sinful lifestyles and embraced the ways of the culture, leading to rebuke by God. However we also see the love that God has for him people. The book of Judges also records those who raised up for the sole purpose of rescue for the people of Israel from themselves and the many distractions of the day.
One of the men raised up as the first Judge was Othniel. Othniel chosen by God rescued Israel from captivity. The support given to Othniel by God is recorded in Judges 3:10 “The Spirit of the Lord came to him, so that he became Israel’s judge and went to war. The Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim king of Aram into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him. So the land had peace for forty years, until Othniel son of Kenaz died.”
Think on this for a time today. We have many things before us, trials, obstacles, situations that will keep us distracted and even weigh us down, but deliverance is on the way. I fully believe that through the power of the Lord that what ever comes our way we will be empowered to make it through. Just remember it is all for God’s glory, not our own. Othniel experienced a great life after the Holy Spirit inspired defeat of the opposing army. From being faithful, Othniel and the entire people of Israel experienced peace in the land for 40 years.
Be faithful, trust, and persevere. Deliverance is on the way! Receive all that God wants to do your life today.
