From the Edges – Morning Devotions

Interrupted –

Ezekiel 37:14  I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken and done it,” declares the Lord.’”

Special News Report – “we interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this special news report”. This line catches our attention. We have heard it when there has been interrupting worthy information to share. A crisis, a storm coming, a death, a terrible act of violence and other things that stop us in our tracks to listen. Usually after the first 30 seconds we decide if it is worth continuing to listen to or not.

In our context of our relationship with God are we hearing the Spirit say “I want to interrupt your regularly scheduled life to do something new and unexpected.” I mean we say we are following Gods leading. We confess Jesus as Lord and Savior of our life. We are striving for righteousness and holiness. However it seems that when God has something new that he wants to do in our life, that will make us better, draw us closer, build us up, we tend to resist ! We have become so comfortable in the present that we do not experience in the here and now what God wants to do. We even become resistant.

Hear the promise this day from Ezekiel 37:14.  “I will put my Spirit in you”.  The result of that will be “you will come to life”.  Be very aware that you must be willing to receive! Second promise: “I will put you in a new land.”  What does this mean?  I will be moved to a new place to live, maybe but not necessarily. This might refer to the new thing that God wants to do in you, where you are. The changes that God wants to cause to happen that will make you better, stronger, and bolder. We could claim in this that deliverance is on the way.  Once again, we have to receive the direction and then follow the directions.

Finally, from this one simple verse, you need to know and affirm this is all from God. Happening through the movement of the Holy Spirit.  Testimony time – It is happening it is taking place. Not just in other places but is happening here. Not just in evangelism and outreach in the outer most parts of the world. Right where you are in my and your life. Don’t be so consumed by the situations of the present that you can’t see the future and the new areas, new ways, new faithfulness that we are being led to.  The promise land is just up ahead, will you go in or return to captivity.
