Nothing Worth More –
Scripture focus – Acts 2:1-5 2 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested[a] on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.
This morning the first song that came up was “Holy Spirit” sung by Francesca Batistelli. The song begins; “There’s nothing worth more, that could ever come close, No thing can compare, You’re our living hope, Your presence Lord.” I immediately was reminded of the summer of 2015 of the time and place I first heard this song. I was in my office at the Fertigs Methodist Church when I first heard the song. Immediately everything stopped as I heard the words for the first time and felt the presence in a powerful way of the Holy Spirit.
I felt that same feeling this morning as I prayed with the song – “Let us become more aware of your presence, Let us experience the glory of Your goodness, Holy Spirit, You are welcome here, Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere, Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for, To be overcome by your presence, Lord.”
There are times when we feel distant from all that God wants to do in our life, but one thing is sure, the presence of God through the Holy Spirit is there. Always has been, always will be! The problem is desiring to experience it. I was so moved by preaching this last couple of weeks as I continually heard the Spirit say “ I am showing up, I am doing, I am providing, all you need to do is receive and allow it to happen.”
At the same time I make this cautionary reminder that the Holy Spirit is not filling us, or the church just for our own purpose and desire but for God’s purpose. For the purpose of building up the body of Christ which is the church for the transformation of the world. Know your purpose in God’s plan for your life and this will come by saying “Holy Spirit, You are welcome here, Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere.”
My prayer is that we will all truly long for the presence of the Lord to overwhelm us. That will truly be what will transform us into the fullness of God and God’s glory!
