From the Edges – Morning Devotions
Through It All –

Scripture focus – 1 Chronicles 17:16-17 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far? 17 And this was a small thing in your eyes, O God. You have also spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come, and have shown me future generations, O Lord God!
I am often drawn to the story of King David. Not for nobleness or to see and honor what a great man he was, but for who he was to God. As we look at the life of David he by far did not lead a perfect life. Not sure if there is a large enough closet to hang all of the skeletons. In looking at David’s life it brings us back to some retrospect for the cause of where we are in or life, in our relationships, and in our focus.
Much is contained in the prayer that is found in 1 Chronicles 17, after the appointment and anointment of David as King over Israel and the covenant made. I’m thinking this morning how we show our love to God by keep the covenant or the promises that we have made. We often forget our covenant (promise) made to God or others. While always expecting God and others to keep their promises to us, do we do the same?
David confesses and acknowledges the presence of God that through it all God has remained faithful. Through faithfulness and the Holy spirit inspired gift of Faith we will see the restoration of God’s kingdom in our life. Not that it needs restoration, it needs realization.
One of the most important thing for all of us to realize is that it isn’t just about us and what we want is for future generations. God has not brought you or me through all of the brokenness, oppression, desperation, trials, and tribulations so we can sit in a loft place and say Thank you Lord. God has brought us to the edge of what is in store for us tomorrow, next week, next month, next year and into the next generation. We should be with all our soul and energy not just be focusing on self but what is up a head in the Kingdom of God.
