From the Edges – Devotional Living focused on Jesus
Surrounded and Sealed
Pastor Calvin Cook – July 15, 2024
Scripture focus – Psalm 139:5 & 6 “You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.
As God’s word has spoke to me this last week from Psalms 139, I continue to be drawn back to the 5th and 6th verse. My journal pages could become full of my thoughts from these verses, the present situations of the world, and the situations in my life. I ask – “Where, Lord can I go to escape the things of the things of the world that torment to experience the fullness and richness of what You desire for me.” Gently the Spirit speaks – “You know the answer, it is into the inner the depths of your Soul where only you and I reside.”
Powerfully the words of Psalms speak to me that we are not only surrounded by the presence and working of God, but we are also sealed by the promise of God’s healing love that “hems us in”. God has surrounded us and sealed the covenant that God has made for us. What have we done with the covenant we have made with God. Or is our relationship based on a “as needed” basis.
In being surrounded by God part of what will need to happen on our part will be what we will choose to surround ourselves with. For our mind, body, and soul what we choose to surround ourselves and focus on will be what will either distract and destroy us or build us up. How we choose and focus will bring forth what the Psalmist describes as “such knowledge too wonderful for me”.
I am choosing this day to be surrounded and sealed by the presence of God through the Holy Spirit around me and in me. My prayer will constantly be this day – “Hem me in Lord”.
