From the Edges – Morning Devotions
A Calmed and Quiet Soul
Pastor Calvin Cook – August 7, 2024
Psalm 131 –
1O Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. 2But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me. 3 O Israel, hope in the Lord from this time forth and forevermore.
We are all standing on the edge of something. Sometimes it is an edge of hopefulness, sometimes an edge of despair, sometimes an edge of joy, sometimes sorrow, sometimes at the edge of contentment, or at the edge of wanting more, you might be at an edge of division or finding contentment in being unified with the Spirit of the God that gives life. Regardless of who we are or where we are or what we believe, we truly are all standing on the edge of something. The next step could be beneficial or detrimental, this is the reason we need to be in a complete connection with the mighty power of the God of all creation.
I truly pray each day to move closer to God. I lift my heart to the Lord not for my own satisfaction according to what the world shows as good, but instead a satisfaction of my soul. I pray that my vision and focus is on honoring God. I am really good at this when I am in the sanctuary of the Lord, but when my praise turns to satisfaction of my own desires, I move away from what God wants or desires and this where the despair begins.
Constantly God is calling us to hope. To satisfy the longing of our souls, to this hope which will satisfy and calm the soul. Hear these words again; God is calling you to Hope! Not despair! Allow that to speak to your soul while you stand on whatever edge you are on, keep your vision and soul centered on faith, hope, peace, joy, love, patience, self-control, gentleness and contentment that is and can only be found in God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit will be right there guiding you.
