From the Edges – In Need of Rescue
Morning Devotions
Pastor Calvin Cook – August 9, 2024

Scripture focus : Psalm 121:2&3 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.

Over the last few days I have encountered in discussions with a couple of people who are facing unusual circumstances in their life. One of the conversations was from an old friend who shared that he had lost a loved one to a drug overdose. I grieve for the life of the one who was lost, but for also the families and friends who have lost their life. I have also had the opportunity to hear of a life that was changed by Jesus leaving all the destruction of evil behind and living a committed life in love and service to Jesus. Because of this change, his life affected others and now the journey of faith continues because of his witness.

My heart has turned many times over the last few months to realizing what is really important. Regardless of the circumstances and situations we must keep our faith. We must now that we are not alone. That there are those who care but most importantly the one who cares who can make a difference is Jesus.

Jordan St. Cyr sings a song entitled “Rescue” – the opening verse speaks volumes: “Oh, I’ve been desperate Cried those loud prayers Like Job on his knees Sayin’, “Lord, I need more than a little help” I’ve been surrounded Felt fear on all sides Like Daniel and the lions know when I fight I don’t fight by myself”

These battles that we are facing, we are not facing along, but we have to learn what complete trust is all about. Not in trust of the things of this world but in the hope that is given in a life of accepting, believing, and trusting.

The chorus of the song continues : When I needed rescue Jesus, You came through Oh, in my hardest season Your promise held true And every time I’ve given in Lord, You’ve proven again That You’re still my Savior now Jesus, You came through Whеn I needed rescue”
The rescue boat is on the horizon, wave it in !

Heavenly Father, I come before you with a humble heart, seeking your protection and safety in all that I do. Lord, you are my refuge and fortress, and I trust in your unfailing love to shield me from harm. I pray in the mighty name of Jesus.
