Seeking Jesus From the Edges – Finding Peace and Comfort in Following Jesus –

Seeking Jesus From the Edges-
Morning Devotions – Finding Peace and Comfort in Following
Prayerfully prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook – August 14, 2024

Scripture focus – John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Don’t lose track of this or forget these words from the Gospel of John. The promise comes in a place when the followers of Jesus began to understand what was ahead and what they would need to be able to make it through. The plan had been laid out and Jesus was preparing them and us for what would happen next. In the 14 chapter of John there are some very important promises made by Jesus.

These are the promises that speak to me: (1) A place is and has been prepared for us. (2) Following Jesus will become essential to experience truth and life. (3) That accepting, believing, and following Jesus will be the way to the Father. (4) That we will do greater works in the name of Jesus (5) The Holy Spirit will be our guide and counselor (6) We will never be abandoned (7) the only way you will be able to move forward is with me, Jesus. The chapter is rich and instructional for us who are searching for more than the world has to offer.

Here is how the Spirit is speaking to my heart this morning. That in order to experience the peace that is given to us, we need to receive it. We cannot take our eyes for one second off the purpose and core value of our faith or our relationship with God, (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.) or we will quickly stumble and fall which will lead to failure. I realize that none of us our embracing the culture of being completely set aside to only be vessels of righteousness poured out. However, as I shared last week, we must bring Jesus into our culture and our lives for guidance and direction so that everyday we are growing and drawing nearer to the heart of God. Drawing nearer to the peace and comfort that Jesus wants to give us.

I realize the need to address problems and situations in our life, but we must be sincere in moving forward in our faith first, in the care of our soul, so that we can begin to understand what perfect peace is all about. My experience has been this will happen when we accept that perfect peace that Jesus gives and are not consumed by everything else. My word of encouragement is to move forward today and trust in the peace and understanding of things the Jesus way and do not let your hearts to be troubled.
