From the Edges – Morning Devotional
Seeing the Glory of the Lord
Pastor Calvin Cook – September 17, 2024
Scripture focus – 1 Chronicles 29:11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.
There is much on my mind this morning. I am preparing to travel and will be gone for several days at the convening General Conference of the Global Methodist Church in San Jose, Costa Rico. The anticipation is growing but before the last item is packed or before the boarding of the plane there are several things which must be accomplished.
I have a list of things not to forget to do before leaving. I have several things to address with the church, business, home, and everything in between before leaving. There is a lot on the mind. However, in the midst of everything that is going on I have peace. This morning as I woke, I was drawn into replacing all this earthly stuff with the glory of God and the presence and peace that God brings into life.
Much of this thought has been brought on by realizing truly what is important. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been able to have some heart-to-heart conversations with people about Jesus. Realizing that some of these questions were not prompted by anything other than the Holy Spirit speaking to the hearts and minds of those who are seeking. We are all seeking, listen to the Holy Spirit speak, guide, and nurture you.
The other part is the passing into eternity of my dear friend and brother in Christ – Larry. More importantly the way he accepted the finality of earthly life with the assurance in what he would experience in eternity. Though my eyes have not seen, I can only imagine what my friend Larry is experiencing in heaven.
While all of this is going on in my mind, I couldn’t help but to desire and experience the glory of God that is all around us. We just need to recognize it. We can adjust everything else, schedules, requirements, thoughts but one thing that must come first is to recognize the presence of God in everything.
My prayer of hope this morning is that in everything, in absolutely everything that I see the glory of God – that is my prayer for you as well. I trust in Jesus as I pray in his name – Amen
