Following Jesus From the Edges – Morning Devotions
Brought You to this Place
Pastor Calvin Cook – September 24, 2024
In the devotions from yesterday at the convening conference of the Global Methodist Church in Costa Rica. Rev Rayoo who was leading the devotions based on Genesis 12, spoke about the call of Abraham by God. What strikes me is the very first verse of Chapter 12 “The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you”.
This verse has caused me to ask the question; are we where we need to be? I’m not particularly asking about a physical location or where we live, though I believe God’s call takes us and moves to other places. I am thinking this morning are we where we need to be in our relationship with God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Is all that we are engaging in bringing glory to God before we are seeking our own glory.
One of the main things that has inspired me in relationship with my friends in Haiti, Africa, and other nations around the globe where life is hard. Yet I have witnessed in this willingness to stand firm and tall for Jesus amidst situations that we will never experience or have to live through. I also see that with a single mom or dad trying to do their best, a person fighting the evils of addiction, our own battles with depression, anxiety, and so much more. There is a world of searching and hurting people and we who claim to followers of Jesus are called to go to the place that God calls us to go to and share the hope, the true hope that can be found in Jesus.
Not to discount any of these very critical issues that we need to endure through is the need to know “are we in the place that God has called us to be.” In mind, in heart, in spirit, in physical location, in relationships with others, in a job, and so much more. Are we in the place where God can be lived out in us and through us.
Realizing we tend to live in “ME” centered worlds, I really believe this story of Abraham who endured extreme situations yet remained faithful. Can we be praying for ourselves and others that we might do the same.F
