Following Jesus – From the Edges

Pentecostal Revival

Pastor Calvin Cook – September 30, 2024

Scripture focus – Acts 2:1-4  When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

The last few months it has seemed as if we have been once again living through the power of Pentecost. With the refreshing that is happening within the Church, the people of God, we will certainly experience great revival. However, the revival continuing now depends on us!

After returning this past week from the convening conference of the Global Methodist Church in San Jose, Costa Rica, I couldn’t help but think about the places that I have sat through a fresh and powerful outpouring of the Holy Spirit, received it, to only go back to what was or to normal.  This time my prayer is to do better, we can’t go back. My prayer and hope is to sincerely bring with all my heart that Pentecostal fire back to the church. I realize that there are a few things that I must do, actually we all must do and that is to allow the Holy Spirit to move and move violently against all that is wrong and not of God. It will call us to make a stand on scriptural orthodoxy without being swayed to allow scripture to say what we want it to say.

As I shared with someone in Costa Rica – “God is depending on us” More importantly our family and those who are close to us, friends, neighbors, acquaintances, and yes even strangers in every part of the globe are waiting for us to stand as the people of God in our witness to match the words that we say. The searching, the hurting, the lonely, the disenfranchised our depending on us to point them in the direction of Jesus.  We ruin the witness of Jesus when we are not the example that God created us to be. That we confess with our mouth that Jesus Crist is Lord.

Now some of you might be thinking this is to much, this will be to hard to accomplish. With that attitude we will never do or be who Jesus called us to be and do what Jesus called us to do. What part of the Great Commission do we not understand ? What part of Go Tell it On the Mountain has grown silent in our actions.

I know, I realize, we are all busy with so many plans of things that we need to do, but once again Jesus is depending on us. Once again be reminded that not only are we Followers of Jesus, but we have received a Pentecostal fire poured out by the Holy Spirit been baptized and fired up by that Spirit that we can no longer remain what we used to be but move into the glorious hope of a resurrection lifestyle for the sake of transformation for ourselves, our spouses, our families, our friends, and yes even the stranger to the furthest reaches to the furthest parts of the world.

This is also a continuation of the good work that was already started. This is also a call upon our lives to continue daily to lay down our nets and pick up our cross being the new wave of a new fired up church with a heart set on revival.

The hymn Revive Us Again —“We praise Thee, O God! For the Son of Thy love, For Jesus Who died, And is now gone above. Hallelujah! Thine the glory. Hallelujah! Amen. Hallelujah! Thine the glory. Revive us again!!!!

Join me in praying “Revive Us Again” ! Bring on the Pentecostal fire once again !
