Day 5: Prayer for Love
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4-74 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
We are reminded in scripture that God showed his love for us by sending his only Son to be the sacrifice for our sinfulness (John 3:16-17). That while we were still lost in the heaviness and weightiness of sin and oppression that the greatest love was shown for us by Jesus dying laying down His own life reconciling us for the forgiveness of sins by His own blood. (Romans 5:8-10). Take a deep breath and meditate on that kind of love that while we did nothing deserve it – Christ died for us for the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternity.
If we have received that great love how then are we loving in return? What are our expectations when we say I love you. Is it to satisfy us with showing nothing in return? How do we love, when do we love, why do we love? These are all thoughts I believe we are being called to pray about. For a greater understanding of Love.
Read again our scripture focus for the day. Are we experiencing the kind of holy love that is patient and kind, bearing all things, not envy and boastful, bearing all things, enduring in all things, and not insisting on our own way and truly what God is – Love.
I think we have some things to pray about this morning. Is my love patient and kind to myself and others. Do I love the way God loves me – do I love others the way God loves me?
– Prayer: Lord, teach me to love as You love—patiently, kindly, and without envy or pride. Help me to always protect, trust, hope, and persevere. May I experience the love of Jesus – Amen
