Pray October – Praying for Healing –

PRAY OCTOBER
31 Days of Scripture, Reflections, and Prayers to bring us closer to the move of God in our midst.
Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook
Day 8: Prayer for Healing
Scripture: Psalm 103:2-5 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

Using Psalm 103 as a guide for prayer this day, pause and consider before your request and petitions all that God has done for you. As we pray for healing, consider first the healing we need for our sinfulness. Interestingly, the Psalm mentions healing for our sinfulness and soul care before it addresses healing for our diseases and sicknesses.

I have always believed of the need for balance between mind, body, and soul. If we lack in the care of one area the other areas become affected and throw us completely off balance. Lately in this season of my life I have realized that it must be the soul and soul care that is a powerful locomotive that pulls the rest of the train. If we are lacking in our soul and soul care and where we should be as a whole person will soon experience the other parts of the trifecta breaking down.

Where are you in all of this. Are you allowing the lonely moments of your life to be consumed by your mind, anxiety, depression, exhaustion or the constant renewing of your mind that is called for in Romans 12:2 to not be conforming to the pattern of the world but being renewed by Jesus. The mind says you can or can not do something, many times the mind and conforming to the pattern of the world leads us to the place we need not be.

This morning, I want to encourage you to pray for healing. Healing first in your own soul, finding and experiencing forgiveness and then realizing that with that balance you will experience healing in other ways. Much of this as Psalms reminds us is found in plenteous redemption. May we become satisfied with God, God’s compassion who will satisfy all of our desires.

Healing for the body, mind, and soul becomes necessary and needed in every way. Can this be the place where healing begins?

Prayer: Father, I praise You for Your healing power. Please heal my body, soul, and spirit as You have promised. Praying in Jesus name – Amen
