PRAY OCTOBER for HUMILITY –

PRAY OCTOBER
31 Days of Scripture, Reflections, and Prayers to bring us closer to the move of God in our midst.
Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook

Day 13: Prayer for Humility
Scripture: Micah 6:8 (NRSV) He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.

Wow what a scripture! A complete direction of God to all of God’s people for a life of hope and service. I think I could preach on this one verse for months. Wait a minute in a time past, I did. I believe it was the summer of 2013 I was the Pastor of the Fertigs Charge and felt the direction to speak on this verse Micah 6:8 for the entire summer. I know the people probably got tired of it but they were so patient with me. I believe that summer changed the course of my life in ministry and changed the course and direction of the church. It helped all of us to realize what really is important.

This morning as I woke, I felt the Holy Spirit asking me a question “Are you ready for an everyday God?” This was 4:30AM and before I even looked at today’s scripture. My response was “Yes”! Of course, that is always the response when God ask us a yes or no question, depending upon the question which we are asked answer Yes or No. (more on the no answers later) But as the Spirit continues to speak, guide, and direct we will always hear the way in which we should go to become who we are meant to be in Christ the Lord.
When we enter to a holy fellowship with God, we will continue to receive direction.

This morning as we receive direction on humility and hopefully our desire for humility. We are hearing this 3000-year-old direction to change our ways, as the Amplified version of scripture reads “He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you Except to be just, and to love [and to diligently practice] kindness (compassion), And to walk humbly with your God [setting aside any overblown sense of importance or self-righteousness]?” Doesn’t this seem monumental in the times we are living in.

That is why we are praying, to be centered back to the will of God, to what is important, to being a part of the Kingdom of God the reign of Jesus! Why? So, we never need be put in the position where God is asking the question “Are you ready (or do you desire) an everyday God?

Prayer: Lord, teach me to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with You. Humility is about having an honest view of self. The only one with Jesus help that can change you is you.
