Day 15: Prayer for Joy
Scripture: Psalm 16:9-11
9Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. 10For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.11You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Each day these devotional thoughts are becoming more and more difficult to write, or at least put out thoughts that are encouraging and uplifting. I assume this has been the Holy Spirit’s way to teach a way of confession, pardon, and redemption. The grieving part of my soul has been I know better, I know that the Lord is my strength yet I allow things going on around me, other people, and situations to steal my joy. If we would all be honest it comes from what we choose to focus on.
Life and maneuvering through life are incredibly challenging. In moments of loss, hardship, or deep emotional pain, it can feel as though joy is far out of reach. Yet, in Psalm 16, David reveals a profound truth: joy is found in God’s presence, even during difficult times.
Psalm 16 guides us to know true joy comes from a deep relationship with God; “my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices,”. These words written by David were not because his circumstances were perfect, but because he knew that God was with him. This is a joy that is eternal —God’s presence and His promises.
In times of darkness, pain or sadness, it can be tempting to turn from God, to turn inward and focus on our pain. But Psalm 16 encourages us to run to God instead. It is in His presence that we find true joy, even when the world around us feels overwhelming.
How do we find joy in difficult times? By turning our hearts to God. Like David, we can rejoice because our God is with us, He is for us, and He will never leave us. We can trust Him to lead us on the path of life, and we can rest in His love. Even in seasons of hardship, we can experience the fullness of joy by spending time in His presence, worshiping Him, and trusting in His promises.
I am praying for the joy of the Lord to overtake me and you. Not what this world is giving us but the promise of God and the joy and strength of the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, in Your presence is the fullness of joy. Help me to seek You and find joy in You. We come to know Joy in knowing Jesus. In His name we pray – Amen
