Praying Through Weakness – Pray October – Day 17

PRAY OCTOBER
31 Days of Scripture, Reflections, and Prayers to bring us closer to the move of God in our midst.

Day 17: Prayer for Strength in Weakness
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

This morning the first thing I read is a message that was sent to me: “Praying that the Spirit of poverty, failure, defeat, confusion, sickness, torment, grief and sorrow — failure at the edge of breakthrough be defeated in Jesus Christ name in your life.”

A powerful prayer, but a much-needed prayer. A reminder that when we are living into a life that pleases God, that is centered in God’s will, that is filled with following in the footsteps of Jesus, it will be in all the weakness that we deal with that we will be made strong in Christ Jesus.

Here is where it is tough. We allow the distractions of the world, the opinions of others, the power of others over and in our life to constantly beat us down. We hear the voices say that you are a failure, you are not worth anything, and we allow those voices to overtake us and make us weak and make us weaker and weaker by each moment.

The idea of praying for strength in weakness is to overcome. Is to hear the truth of the Gospel spoken into our life, filling us, empowering, moving us on to becoming the one we have been created to be. For this to happen we must claim the promises of God. Be reminded of the covenants that we have made with God and be faithful.

When I was a child, I remember a song on an old 8 track tape that was played repeatedly, maybe it’s because we only had a few 8 track tapes. The song was “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.” I often hear some of the words of that song; “I am weak but thou art strong, Jesus keep me from all wrong, I’ll be satisfied as long, just as long as I walk close to thee.”

The answer is walking closer and closer to Jesus all the time. When we have gone through physical sickness, we often hear the words of the doctor – “You have to build your strength back up.” My dear friends we have been through a lot may we hear the words of the Holy Spirit speaking into our life this morning – “You have to get your strength back up”. May we be made strong in Christ the Lord, the one who gave his life for you.

Prayer: Lord, Your grace is sufficient for me. In my weakness, Your power is made perfect. Strengthen me with Your grace. By your grace make me strong to withstand everything. Empower me by your Holy Spirit. Amen
