PRAY OCTOBER
31 Days of Scripture, Reflections, and Prayers to bring us closer to the move of God in our midst.
Day 18: Prayer for Spiritual Growth
Scripture: Colossians 1:9-10 9And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Any Pastor, Spiritual Leader, Spiritual Father or Mother has a great desire to see those in their care to grow. Not just becoming rich or popular by worldly standards, but to grow in the knowledge of God and to live a life worthy of the Lord.
Some might call this discipleship at the highest level. But for the effects of this scripture to be lived out there must be two components: the one willing to pour out and the one willing to receive. Not just to receive bits and pieces when it is convenient, but to be in a place where spiritual growth is desired. It comes down to the question we must ask of ourselves are we desiring to grow in the love and knowledge of God. Or are we happy where we are and not desiring to grow any more.
A prayer for Spiritual Growth is necessary every day, but then we must be willing to receive and experience the growing pains. The cost many times is difficult as it causes us to leave our earthly opinions and trappings to focus on the full act of pleasing God. When we increase in the knowledge of God we will begin to grow spiritually.
I believe a good guide towards success would be this. Ask yourself often through the day : Am I pleasing God in thought, word, and deed. When you read scripture, worship, pray, what are your takeaway points, something that changes your life. Journal, write your thoughts, how you are experiencing God, it can be as simple as a one- or two-word thought, but write it down. Notice the presence of God. Seek forgiveness. Experience Redemption. Most importantly get over and past yourself, dive into God’s good and perfect will. Spend as much time in righteousness as you do in wrongfulness.
Pray to see spiritual growth every day. The content of prayer certainly changes but the focus of the prayer should always be the same to grow in the love and knowledge of God.
Prayer – Lord, fill me with the knowledge of Your will through all wisdom and understanding, that I may live a life worthy of You and bear fruit in every good work. In Jesus name – Amen
