Day 23: Prayer for Obedience
Scripture: John 14:23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.
I love how the Holy Spirit speaks in the early first minutes of the morning. The hymn on my heart first thing was Holy, Holy, Holy : “Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!” – The first thing of the day to live into the expectations of the day in heart and mind must be set on God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This does require great obedience. Along with this hymn sang from the silence and depth of my soul was and is a prayer to be obedient in faith.
The second speaking of the Holy Spirit this morning was the song “Give Me Faith” by Elevation Worship. “Give me faith to trust what You say – That You’re good and Your love is great, I’m broken inside, I give You my life.”
In these two songs, the day’s prayer focus for obedience speaks loudly. I admit that we don’t often want to speak or be obedient to God. We want of God what we want and obedience to the holiness, nature of, beauty and awe of God is something we talk about desiring but do we actually step into that sanctuary of God to experience it through our obedience.
When Jesus says “Follow Me” do we follow? When Jesus says “Come to me and be prepared to receive thy will be done” – Do we come? When Jesus says believe with all your heart, mind, and soul – Do we? Are you with me are we seeing how obedient we truly are to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Be reminded of God’s love and know we love God be being obedient to his teachings and ways. I really am desiring to be in that place, to make my home in the holiness of God.
Prayer: Lord, help me to love You by obeying Your teachings. Make Your home in me as I keep Your word. In Jesus name – Amen
