PRAY OCTOBER – 31 Days of Scripture, Devotionals and Prayers to draw us into a deeper prayer life.
Day 25: Prayer for Deliverance from Temptation
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13 -No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Temptation comes in many forms and presents itself and is called by many different names. Several synonyms are Allurement, Enticement, Seduction, Lure, Bait, Urge, Desire, Provocation, Inducement, Attraction, Appeal, Tease, Pull, and Draw. Rather exhaustive list! All the things we must come against to be in a right and pleasing relationship with God.
Often in conversation with others who are struggling with their faith journey is the confession of all of the distractions. The distractions that continually come at us in so many different forms that deceive us and draw us away. I am asking that you consider thinking about and praying through these distractions that will eventually lead to allowing temptation to claim you. Our first defense must always be prayer.
The early Corinthians must have had to realize that temptation was very real and could overtake them and their relationship with Jesus. However, we have been given through grace the ability to withstand all temptation by a complete trust in the power and will of God at work in our lives every day. But do we?
I love how this scripture this morning is reminding us that God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit will always make a way out. God will always show the better and more excellent way. Avoiding temptation then becomes choosing that way, that more excellent way.
We all experience temptation and how we respond is up to us. Praying this morning for the way, the truth, and life to take over all the areas of distraction and temptation we are all facing. Are you brave enough to allow the Holy Spirit to make a way for you? Will you join me in praying today.
Prayer: Lord, when I face temptation, help me to remember that You are faithful and will provide a way out so that I can endure it. In Jesus mighty and powerful name. Amen
