Day 26: Prayer for Revival
Scripture: Psalm 85:6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?
In a little country church, a Sunday gathering space, in the depths of my soul I have often sung the words from the 1839 hymn “Revive Us Again” especially the 4th verse “Revive us again, fill each heart with thy love. May each soul be rekindled with fire from above”.
It seems to me to me that we seek revival, we ask for revival, we wait for revival, but do we anticipate a holy spirit inspired revival or one to just suit what we want when we want it. Plans have been written, songs have been sung, videos have been produced, sermons have been preached about the need for revival. With so much energy focusing on revival why isn’t it happening. That answer rests with each of us, we aren’t allowing it to happen, we aren’t receiving it when it does.
A answered prayer for revival will require us to make changes to move into the fullness of God. Notice what happened in Acts 2 when revival broke out, all were one in Spirit and unity, all were willing to lay down and surrender everything for the change of God called revival that birthed the church. And everyday numbers were added. They were not added, people did not come, because of being the biggest and brightest church, or having the best Pastor, or the best programs, social media, or website. People came because their lives were transformed by the work of the Holy Spirit alive and moving. They were willing to receive! They were willing to leave their pre-conceived thoughts behind and move into the excellence of the holiness of Christ alive, living, and active.
The refrain of the hymn – “Hallelujah! Thine the glory, hallelujah! Amen! Hallelujah! Thine the glory, revive us again. May each soul be rekindled with fire from above.”
Prayer: Lord, revive me again so that I may rejoice in You. Bring a fresh awakening to my spirit. Revival is here may I receive it. May I allow it to happen.
