PRAY OCTOBER – 31 Days of Prayer, Scripture Readings, Devotions to draw us closer to God.
Day 28 Devotional: Praying with Holy Boldness
“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” – Acts 4:29-31
There is a holy boldness that sets apart the followers of Jesus, a courage that grows from the depths of knowing God. As we see in Acts, the early believers were faced with threats and pressure to be silent in their faith. They were not stopped, they prayed for boldness—not for protection or a way out, but for a greater courage to proclaim Jesus. This holy boldness is something we are all called to in the days we are living in. However, we shrink into the world away from the power of the Holy Spirit at work.
As I pray this morning, I am thinking of the prayer of Solomon we prayed through last week. As Solomon dedicated the temple with prayer. He asked God for wisdom and understanding to lead his people. Solomon did not ask for riches or a long life; he prayed for the heart and ability to fulfill his calling with courage and wisdom (2 Chronicles 1:7-12). I am praying this same prayer today. Praying to break through attitudes, assumptions, and self-centered goals that are furtheringseperatingthechurch from and its people from what is important.
We must ask God for a boldness to live out our faith courageously. This does not mean we will not feel fear or opposition, but it means we have a strength greater than our own. When we pray for holy boldness, we are inviting the Holy Spirit to empower us, just as He empowered the early church. And like those believers, we, too, can trust that God hears our prayers, strengthens our hearts, and shakes the ground beneath us, making us unmovable and unwavering.
Prayer:
Lord, I come before You, asking for a holy boldness like those who followed You in the early church. I don’t pray for safety or comfort, but for courage to speak Your truth in love, no matter the opposition. Grant me wisdom like Solomon to live wisely and love deeply. Let Your Holy Spirit fill me, strengthen me, and use me for Your glory. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Let this be our prayer daily, trusting that when we pray in faith, God will give us the courage to live as lights in a dark world.
