Praying Thy Will Be Done – Day 29 – Prayer for God’s Will –

PRAY OCTOBER – 31 Days of Prayer, Meditations, and Scripture to better our relationship with God.

Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook –

Day 29: Prayer for God’s Will
Scripture: Matthew 6:10 –“Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”

There are many things in life that are dragging us down. I’m not going to list mine here but in the last 24 hours I have thought, prayed, conversed, read, witnessed, and experienced some of the “things” that are dragging me down. Some of these things might be looked at as being good, maybe even successful, because after all aren’t many of the things in our life and world based on how successful you are and how many souvenirs you have on your shelf.

This morning as I pray what I am calling the most dangerous prayer “thy will be done” I am not measuring my success on what I need or want, in retrospect I am praying that I evaluate all that I have and am and asking the question is this living into God’s good and perfect will.

Prayer should be changing us. We are now 29 days into this 31-day challenge. How in these last 29 days has prayer changed your life? How is this moment of reflection and prayer changing your life? One of the real awakenings I am experiencing is the answer of God in what I call the most dangerous prayer – “thy will be done”. Is when we pray for God’s kingdom to be revealed that God’s kingdom has already been revealed we just haven’t accepted it. God’s kingdom has already come to earth we just haven’t allowed that way to make our way.

Some hard things to realize when praying God’s will: When we ask for God’s will are we willing to receive it? When we ask for God’s kingdom to be manifested on earth as it is in heaven are we ready to experience it? When we seek the hope and peace that only Jesus can offer are we ready to accept it? What is happiness and contentment measured on? I have a feeling none of the answers will be summed up in who has the most points on the score sheet at the end of the game.

I went looking for something to sooth the dark spots and rough edges of my own life. To escape, make a new start, believe in a way that is so very contrary in our present world conditions. What I found instead was not answers but Jesus waiting patiently for me to get it. It’s just like seeing and hearing Jesus say, “ I was there all the time trying to tell you, you just didn’t get it.” “It is not about your purpose but mine.”

On my knees as I pray for and desire the fullness of God’s kingdom – not for riches or power or notoriety, but for the Kingdom of God to overpower my life and this world.

Prayer: Lord, let Your kingdom come and Your will be done in my life, just as it is in heaven. Have your way as I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
