Day 30: Prayer for the Lost

Scripture: Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

As I begin this time of reflection this morning, I want to be perfectly clear in what I say. I am not judging but simply reflecting on what it is to be lost. By this I mean, I realize that we are all searching for something. In some way we are all lost. If you say, “I am not lost, I am perfectly fine”, then in that discovery you will find where you are lost. We all need more of Jesus!

One of the main points of following Jesus that I have come to realize is the purpose and mission of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, what a relationship with Jesus means and the soulful need for a better way.

In this simple yet powerful verse from Luke 19:10 Jesus reveals His mission: to seek and save the lost. Throughout His ministry, Jesus went to those who were marginalized, misunderstood, and in desperate need of grace. Jesus came with an open heart, offering restoration to anyone willing to come to Him. Read the reflection of Nicodemus in John 3. This same invitation that was extended to Nicodemus is still being extended today. Most of the time we as believers and followers redeemed by this amazing grace need to be the envelope of the invitation that is extended to others.

Jesus’ example challenges us to step out of our comfort zones and look beyond ourselves to see the lost around us—family members, friends, and strangers alike who are seeking hope, often without realizing their need for Him. We don’t save; Jesus does. But we can point people toward His love through our lives and prayers.

As followers of Jesus, we’re called to reflect His heart for the lost. This means praying, reaching out in love, and letting our lives be testimonies of His grace. We may be the only example of Jesus that someone sees, and in that moment, we can extend the same grace we’ve received.

The prayer this morning has a two-fold purpose. First that we now where we stand with Jesus and that we are willing to share that hope with another. The impact we who believe in Jesus, who have accepted him as Lord and Savior of our life would be willing to share Jesus with one person a day, even a week, or a month, what an impact this could make for Kingdom building.

The second part is for the one who has not yet made that decision to follow Jesus. Not just praying for that one but being willing to put hands, feet, and heart to our prayers and share Jesus, proclaim the good news that sets the captive free with the one you have been called to pray for.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for seeking and saving me. I lift up those who are lost and searching, who may not know how deeply You love them. Give me eyes to see others as You do, with compassion and a heart that is willing to reach out in kindness. Equip me to share Your love in simple, meaningful ways, and give me the boldness to speak of Your grace. May Your Holy Spirit work in their hearts, drawing them closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

As we go through our day, may we remember that Jesus came for everyone and invites us to be part of His mission to seek and save the lost.
