Devotions on Soul Care From the Edges –
Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook
Day 4 – How is it with your Soul?
Scripture – Psalm 33:20-22 We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
Last evening I sat in the sanctuary and prayed. Praying for the nation and the election. As I prayed, I watched as others made their way into to pray. As they prayed, I prayed for them. Though there is great anxiety around this election and the conditions that are prevailing and apparent all around us, during this time in sanctuary I found peace.
I thought to other times in my life that I have needed the comfort of God’s presence. Knowing that in most of those times, my request was what I wanted God to do. Last night I thought just as I have in some past times of prayer of what God wants me to do for God.
We often ask the question “How is it with your Soul?” But after last night and this morning’s prayer time, I can’t help but think and reflect on the question “How does God think it is with your soul?” I mean if we believe and proclaim with all of our heart that God is our everything, shouldn’t His opinion matter? But does it? Seriously pray for this.
We have read God will always make a way, and if we believe that, how willing are we to allow it?
Soul care also means surrender. I have come to that in this election. Regardless of who is elected, God is still God, God is still in charge, Jesus is still changing lives, the Holy Spirit is still the comforter and advocate of our souls. We just have to move into that place in our soul. Regardless of what happens, we still need to love God, with our whole self, mind, body, and everything.
Praying – May your unfailing love be with us as we put our trust in you. Amen
