Why Does God Love US? How Is It With Your Soul? Morning Devotional –

Morning Devotion – How Is It With Your Soul?
Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook
Day 7 –
Soul Care is knowing Why God Loves US –
Scripture focus : Deuteronomy 7:7-8 ESV It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

I woke this morning asking the question “why does God love me?” Trying to grasp the Why, has brought me to some needed confession, realizing that I have not always been as faithful as I should be, not always showed God respect, not always followed the way I should, not always kept the two Jesus taught greatest commandments to Love God with my everything and love others. As I continued to think I began to realize I had started to make it about me but isn’t that what we always do.

I was drawn to the story of creation in Genesis. Beginning to realize that God created everything not only for his pleasure but for humanity. The race of people, created in the image of God, for the purpose of God. Created to care for all of creation and each other. God showed His purpose in His people and asked that we be faithful. Think now how are we continuing the purpose that God has for each of us. If God first loved us as Romans 5:8 explains that even in our sinfulness God continues to love us and make a way through the death of Jesus. Seeing how God loves us is exhibited through Jesus coming to earth and dying for our sins as a sacrifice.

Maybe, it comes back on us to realize God has made a way and a plan. As the scripture from Deuteronomy 7: 7-8 reminds us, it is not because be we are white or black, male or female, rich or poor, dumb or smart or anything else it is because of God’s covenant. It is because God’s love continues to be shown to us by bringing us out of the captivity of sinfulness into a new and glorious life that is only found in Christ Jesus. And all we have to do is respond to it, accept it, and live in it. Maybe here is the problem – we do not care for our soul in a holy way, but instead in a way that leads to further destruction.

Maybe knowing how God loves and why means stepping back into the garden. Seeing everything that has been created for us at God’s pleasure, even relationship, and companionship of both God and even each other. That in the early days of creation, everything was perfect and had value. Maybe there is the answer we have no value of God’s love for us and that is truly what is affecting our soul.
Friends, God loves us, God loves you, has created you uniquely and wonderfully. God has shown and continues to show love for all of the world, some have just not received it.

If your soul feels empty, it is because you have allowed other things to fill it. Allow God to fill you with a never-ending love that started way back in the first days of creation. Now it is time to ask, “How can I love and show my love to God to heal my soul?”

Prayer – Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us with an everlasting, unconditional love. Help us to fully grasp and embrace this love, and to reflect it to those around us. May we find peace and purpose in knowing that we are cherished and valued by You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
