Soul Care – Day 9
Seeking the Sovereignty of God
Scripture focus – Isaiah 46:9-10 “Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me. I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’”
I spoke briefly in my sermon this past week on the sovereignty of God in our lives. Realizing that we use words and descriptions at times that some might not grasp or understand, I want to help with an understanding of God’s sovereignty.
Here is my easy definition: The sovereignty of God is the understanding that God has control and authority over all creation. This means that God is supreme, that He has all power, wisdom, and authority to rule over the universe and our lives. The world says “NO!” to this idea. The evil one works overtime to try and distract us from being at the center of God’s will. Think if satan tempted Jesus, that he will pull out all stops against you, especially if there is a lack of faith or trust.
Understanding and embracing God’s sovereignty provides us with a deep sense of peace and trust, knowing that everything unfolds according to His perfect plan. It brings “thy will be done” into a new perspective.
When are soul, and especially our mind come to that place, we will find care for our soul. That when our will aligns with the will of God, then nothing should be able to distract us from finding hope in Jesus, the free gift of salvation, abundant grace and the teachings of scripture. When we refuse to accept the sovereignty of God is when Isaiah 55 comes to life and we have to confess that God’s ways our not our ways.
In trials and uncertainties, we should come to a deep resolve to find comfort in knowing that God is sovereign and is working all things for our good. That for the glory of God nothing is wasted and that we all have a purpose God’s divine plan.
Prayer – Lord I desire to have complete trust in you. Give me peace today to know that you are working at changing my life and drawing me closer to you. Lord may I find forgiveness and redemption in You. Show me the way Lord. In Jesus name I pray – Amen
