Soul Care – Day 10
Soul Care in God’s Deliverance – Part 1
Scripture focus – 1 Samuel 17:37: “The LORD who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”
As we face problems, situations, battles and our own giants. Before reacting I am experiencing the need to be called back to the heart of God and truly what is important. Considering the battles that are before us whether they be emotional, physical, relational, financial, societal, or spiritual there is some giant looming and preying on our own happiness and sanctuary.
We often remember the battle between David and Goliath as a training ground for our own battles. For the battle David faced against Goliath was at an odd of 10000 to 1. Maybe that is what our battles seem like today. How are we preparing to go into battle.
A look at David’s preparation should give us some guidance :
1 – David’s confidence was not in his own self. David was a mere child, a young shepherd boy. When he should have been thinking about playing with the other kids and things most teenagers think about, he was defending himself against lions and bears and preparing to fight a giant that no one else would fight. Think of the battle you are engaged in. Are you placing confidence not in your own strength and ability but in the strength of the Lord and what will be supplied to you for deliverance. This is especially significant to us who are seeking deliverance from sinfulness and oppression of the evil that is constantly invading our happiness.
2 – David did not choose to use the armor and weapons provided him.(1Samuel 17:39-40) He choose to follow God’s guidance and direction and use that which God had given him to fight the battle. This is also part of accepting the deliverance and the way God is providing. Do we have faith enough to believe in the deliverance of the Lord that God will provide what, when, and how we need it, if we are faithful and willing to respond to what God is doing and providing.
3 – David did not use conventional armor and weapons against the giant, instead he proclaimed that he was coming into battle in the name of the Lord, who would deliver to David and the people of God victory. (1 Samuel 17:45-47)
We will return to this thread tomorrow, but in the meantime, think into your own life. Are you fighting the battles of life with a holy attitude, not giving into how the enemy says you should be fighting but how God has already delivered you victory. All that is left to do is accept the battle plan and carry it out. If you have not yet seen clearly, pray earnestly for clarity into exactly what God is calling you to.
Soul care for today will mean not being consumed by the things of this world and all the evil one is throwing at us, but by the renewing of our mind, heart, and soul that is found in Christ Jesus the Lord.
Praying – Lord, bring clarity and direction into my life as I seek deliverance – Amen
