Soul Care Is Lonely – How Is It with Your Soul?

How Is It With Your Soul –
Soul Care – Day 12
Soul Care is Lonely

Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook – 11-15-2024
Scripture focus – Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Being honest! I pray that I have not filled this time with a lot of thoughts that getting our soul in the right place is as easy as walking through a field of daisies. At the same time, I pray that I and all who read these thoughts on soul care realize and come to the resolve that it is essential to our very being the need of more of God.

Caring for our soul and finding our way through the muck and mud of life is tough, especially when we try to do it with fully leaning upon God and being immersed in the “all of God”. In these times the opposition seems so much greater, and we grow weak and tired in the battle. We give in to temptation, sinfulness, apathy and so much more that continue to gnaw at our soul and actually begin to feel OK.

I have come to realize in my life and in what I have experienced with others at the most desperate of times, that the journey to care for your soul is lonely. This is difficult to understand. Not necessarily alone but more of God and less of the things that hurt us.

I mean when we go through struggles we will commonly hear “I am praying for you” and that is great and powerful. But I also am realistic that in the darkest moments of our life, regardless of how much people love you and are committed to you, the only one in that prayer room to pray out of desperation or whatever the situation is, is you and Jesus. The we of life together suddenly becomes me. When Jesus is not included, when not seeking the comfort of God it is in this place that you truly feel alone.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil” ( Psalm 23:1) are inspiring words. Notice the loneliness the writer who is King David is all alone, there is only God supplying is soul support that is further explained in the continuing verses. Alone and afraid David trust in God. For us today this commitment has become tough because we have leaned into the earthly acceptance of others. Though not a bad thing, we need human interaction and affirmation, but this can not replace more of God, or truly coming to grip with “how is it with your soul?”

Psalm 34:4 is bringing me great comfort as I write these words this morning; “I sought the Lord, and He answered me, He delivered me from all my fears.” Here is where we need to care for our soul in the way that the Lord provides and the care that God gives, not of or from our own memory bank, ideas, schemes, or plans. Not of or from anyone else but knowing the sound answers to the prayers we are praying in open communication with a God who loves us.

God is with you ! God loves you! God desires the best for you! God sent Jesus to die for you! We receive new life in Christ! The Holy Spirit is with you! Jesus has given and promised the Holy Spirit to you! You are not alone! Trust in God! Be still and know God!
