How Is It With Your Soul ?
Draw Me Close to YOU?
Pastor Calvin Cook – 11-22-24
Scripture focus – Exodus 3:12 12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God on this mountain.”
Moses was tending his sheep. Of course, he was he was a committed Shepherd going through his normal day to day routine. When suddenly God intervenes and interrupts. I can also hear God saying “ Moses I have so much planned for you and for you to do, but the first and most important is for you to be drawn closer to me.” Wait a minute, maybe I’m hearing God speak that to me because of Moses’s example of faithfulness.
Assuredly we can hear that same call. We can experience that same God interruption, but we must be willing to see the burning bushes in our lives not as an ending but as an all-consuming fire. This is the call that God right now is designing for our life, are we willing to allow God to interrupt and more importantly are we willing to listen and to follow.
As I started my day the contemporary song Draw Me Close to YOU” was in my head. Here is the first line – “Draw me close to You, Never let me go I lay it all down again, To hear You say that I’m Your friend, You are my desire, No one else will do, Cause nothing else can take Your place, To feel the warmth of Your embrace, Help me find the way, Bring me back to You”
To be drawn to or back to God, we must be willing to listen and experience God. The last couple of days, I have been weighed down with some decisions that I needed and still need to make. Yet in the midst of everything, the Holy Spirit drew me in through Bible Study. (Bible Study at East Kane, Wednesdays at 6:30 and at KCMC, Thursdays at 6:30PM).
Through coming together with only the purpose of learning and living life together through the study of God’s word, brought a healing balm to the injuries of life.
This morning, laying it down and drawing close becomes the key. Sitting at the feet of Jesus and learning that “one needful thing” becomes what will bring our lives and soul to the place that we are all striving for.
It starts with allowing God to interrupt your day, your regularly scheduled programming and come back to the heart of God, where all anxieties cease and where true healing begins.
Prayer – I’m praying this morning to be drawn closer to you – let me see you and feel you and know you. In Jesus, the sanctifier and redeemer I pray – Amen
