How Is It with Your Soul?
THE WALL of YOUR SOUL
Pastor Calvin Cook – 11-27-2024
Scripture Isaiah 33:6 – (NIV) He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.
“Christ is my sure foundation, the rock on which I stand, when everything around me is shaken I’ve never been more glad. That I put my faith in Jesus ‘Cause He’s never let me down He’s faithful through generations So why would He fail now? He won’t, He won’t” is the opening verse to the song “Firm Foundation”. This was the first song today on my play list and called me to think about what I am doing to protect my soul. What am I doing to build a fortress around my soul so that as hard as the enemy tries to break in, steal, kill, and destroy, I find protection in the fortress of the Lord.
In my visits to Haiti, I am always amazed by the walls the Haitians build to protect their property. Using a variety of impenetrable components, they work hard to develop the protection of walls to protect their families, homes, and everything they have worked hard for.
Walls are built for various reasons but to me the two main reasons are to keep something in or keep something out. This must become the same idea in soul care. We will build walls protecting our soul to keep something in or keep something out. That even amidst everything that is going on around us when we allow good decisions, salvation, faith, righteousness and the power of the Holy Spirit to build the wall around our soul we will be able to be protected. This being the reason for a sure foundation built on Christ as the cornerstone of everything. Every good wall needs a secure and firm foundation!
I also realize that for every wall that is built there needs to be a way in and a way out, door. We must decide what we want to let into our soul and what we will keep out. The teachings of Jesus in the “sermon on the Mount” is filled with suggestions.
Here is the problem, sometimes we allow things into our soul that continue to harm and hurt us. It would be like allowing a herd of pigs into a walled in area. It doesn’t matter how beautiful the area is, the pigs will soon be destroyed by rooting, wallowing, and everything pigs do. The pristineness of our life is destroyed by what we allow in.
This morning, I want to encourage to build a wall for your soul, actually that wall has already been built when you said Yes to Jesus. The protector and guardian, the Holy Spirit is constantly on guard helping you to discern between what you should allow in and what you should keep out. But you control the doorway. Choose wisely!
Here is a prayer from Isaiah 33:2
Lord, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. Praying in the name of Jesus. Amen
