And It Came to Pass – Devotionals

Waiting

Isaiah 40:31:”But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Waiting is tough! Whether it is waiting on the tea kettle to boil, a friend to visit, an event to happen, an answer to come, a return call, a big announcement, waiting is hard! Part of this as we wait for the Lord to answer a prayer, bring healing and hope, deliver us from a situation or even acknowledge God’s presence. Waiting is so very hard.

As I prayed this morning, I felt the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart about one of the things that we might be missing in waiting. It is a time to cleanse and purify our souls. It was if the Holy Spirit asked “How can you expect me to enter in when you haven’t made a place for me to work.”  Is that saying that I am trying to manage God and not remember the words “thy will be done”.

Maybe waiting means building up a holy stamina to withstand all the things that are distracting and deceiving us. Maybe it is me who has entered the realm of instant living. Instant living is described as wanting and receiving everything quickly.

If we are willing to wait and receive the strength of the Lord, it will take us becoming more and more centered on the good and perfect will of the Lord. It will take receiving the direction and guidance of the Lord in all things. There are several factors that play into this, the main one being patience. As I wait, may I be as patient with God as God has been with me.
