Do You Recognize Jesus? A devotional for the seeking.

Do We Recognize the Presence of Jesus?
Scripture focus – Mark 10:46-52
Prepared by Pastor Calvin – January 21, 2025

Do we recognize Jesus? We recognize the stories about Jesus. We recognize Jesus when we are in trouble and seeking rescue. We recognize Jesus on Sunday morning, in Bible studies, and during religious moments. My thoughts this morning – do we really recognize the presence of Jesus in everything? While in this thought pattern, I am praying for the one who is searching for something more.

In Mark 10:46-52, we encounter a powerful story of faith and transformation. Bartimaeus, a blind beggar sitting by the roadside, hears that Jesus is passing by. Despite his physical blindness, he recognizes something that many around him do not—Jesus is not just another traveler; He is the Messiah, the Son of David. With boldness and persistence, Bartimaeus cries out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

At first, the crowd tries to silence him, but he refuses to be discouraged. His determination grows stronger, and he continues to call out. Jesus, hearing the blind man’s cries, stops and calls Bartimaeus to Himself. In that moment, everything changes. With faith-filled expectation, Bartimaeus throws off his cloak, jumps to his feet, and comes to Jesus.

When Jesus asks, “What do you want Me to do for you?” Bartimaeus responds with a simple yet profound request: “Rabbi, I want to see.” Jesus acknowledges his faith and heals him, saying, “Go, your faith has healed you.” Instantly, Bartimaeus receives his sight and follows Jesus.

This passage raises a vital question for us today: Do we recognize the presence of Jesus in our lives?

Read this passage from Mark 10:46-52, pray and meditate over it and what it means to our own particular lives – If you don’t have a Bible ask us we will get you one – if you want to talk in person let us know we are here for you.
Tomorrow – part 2.
