The Wait – How Long? Morning Devotional – From the Edges

The Wait –

Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Yesterday morning during my prayer time – I felt drawn to pray, asking God to intervene in everything. For through the power of the Holy Spirit to bring deliverance, to bring hope, to bring direction. Emphasizing that in these things and ways that God will be glorified through all of my decisions and actions.

I waited all day for some things to take place. I thought that yesterday would be the day. The big thing would happen. Though it seemed that there were some things that came against me and my plan, (I emphasize my plan) that caused me to aske a couple of times – Why? Is my patience being tested? Have I not come to the place that I need to be? Why didn’t I experience this cinema like deliverance I was expecting. Quite honestly, I was humbled, to realize and hear, “ be patient, I am working to make all things new. Make sure all that you are grasping hold of is from me.” (life core verse Isaiah 43:18-19)

As we look at the life of waiting – are we waiting on the right things even through our misery? Key lessons of Joseph’s life (Genesis 39-50) while waiting on deliverance is that in that season of his life, which lasted 13 years of betrayal, adversity, being beat up, thrown in prison and so much more, Joseph remained faithful. Joseph kept his integrity, kept calm, but most importantly had patience and trusted in God! Ultimately through God’s promise to Joseph and the hurting nation of Israel, God’s deliverance happened. I have assurance that it will happen with all of us also, as we are patient and faithful – to the God who loves us more than we can ever imagine, who wants to do more than we can ever ask for. (Ephesians 3: 20 )

May our prayer of proclamation and dedication be today from Genesis 49:18 – I wait for Your salvation, O Lord!  Lord heal our hearts and rescue us from that we need rescued from.
