NO RETURN, IF YOU NEVER LEAVE –
Pastor Calvin Cook – 2-6-2025
Scripture focus – Deuteronomy 4:30 When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the Lord your God and listen to His voice.
In Deuteronomy 4:30, we are reminded of God’s unwavering grace and mercy. This verse speaks to the inevitability of human frailty and the comfort that God will always welcome us back with open arms. Yet, what if we never strayed in the first place? What if we remained steadfast in our relationship with God, never having to experience the sorrow of separation or the necessity of return?
I recently read an article that was a study done looking at those who left the church after they reached adulthood. The study claimed that only 1 in 5 who leave will ever return. The study did not speak to those who left God. But, if we never leave God regards of where we are in our church and community life, we still must abide in Christ, for Christ to abide in us. We can’t just be visitors. My thought this morning is if we never leave God, we will never have to return. Imagine a life where every decision, every action, and every thought is anchored in His presence. Such a life is marked by peace, purpose, and unwavering hope.
Staying close to God doesn’t mean we won’t face challenges or struggles. In fact, life’s trials can often be more intense because of our faith. However, the assurance of God’s constant presence means we are never alone. His guidance and strength are always available to us, through the presence of the Holy Spirit.
To never leave God requires intentionality. It means prioritizing time in prayer, immersing ourselves in His Word, and surrounding ourselves with a community of believers who encourage us in our faith journey. It means surrendering our will to His and trusting that His plans for us are far greater than anything we could imagine. I’m striving for that, what about you? Read about the start of the early church in Acts 2 and 3 and see what the early followers of Jesus were devoting their life to.
As we reflect on Deuteronomy 4:30, let us commit to a life of steadfast devotion. Let us choose to remain in God’s presence, so we never have to experience the pain of returning, but rather, continually bask in His love and grace. Remember you never have to return, if you never leave. Stay close to God –
