A Bright Light in Darkness

Moving Forward by Returning – Part 2

Prayerfully prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook

February 11, 2025

Sleepless nights happen. They creep in when we least expect them, without much warning, or reason of why they’re happening. The choice on these sleepless nights results, sometimes in great anguish, or even in great comfort, and time to draw closer to God.

During the sleepless nights we have the opportunity to choose what we will allow to consume the void. It can be times of worry, or times of great prayerful meditation. Whatever the results one thing that we must remember is that in that time of being alone, That the presence of God is there and that’s what needs to be our focus.

One of the thoughts that was recently planted in my mind, was the need to be reminded of scripture, the words that have been written on our hearts from maybe even past nights of sleeplessness. Remember what Scripture says. You might not be able to do the Sunday School quote of Book, Chapter, Verse, but write the words on your heart and be amazed at how often they come back. For example, the verses that I share today are verses over the last couple of days or weeks or in worship have been scriptures that have stopped me in my tracks, caused me to pause. I couldn’t tell you where they were, but needing to quote Book, Chapter, verse I am able to google the line or thought that came to mind and find it easily.

The Psalmist beautifully captures the guiding power of God’s Word in Psalm 119:105: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Imagine walking through a dark, uncertain world without any light. That’s often how life feels in these sleepless nights. When we consistently read and digest scripture, we’re allowing God’s truth to illuminate our path, offering  guidance and direction.

Remember whatever it is you are going through, you are not alone. Allow God’s word to light the path and give you guidance.
