A Valentine to Jesus –

A Valentine to Jesus
February 14, 2025
Valentines Day is a day that we share our feelings of love for another. We send gifts, flowers, cards, eat dinner at special places, spend time together. I thought this morning, why only one day?

Shouldn’t we be showing our love and appreciation to those who constantly stand side by side with us through thick and thin, good times and bad. What is the reason we don’t do this? Self-centeredness. It is always what I need and want and not about the other one. Maybe that is why we have quit writing thank you cards, calling people to check on them, showing random acts of kindness every day and not just on the days like Valentines Day, Christmas, Birthdays, etc. These thoughts and ideas that we all need to put into practice, self-included.

What about a Valentine to Jesus? How are we sending notes and actions of Love to Jesus. After all Jesus did pay the ultimate price for all of us! How are you saying “I Love You” to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Is it in prayers of thanksgiving and gratitude, serving in mission and outreach without excuse, loving the hard to love, worshiping, and other virtuous acts. Or do we receive that for just one day and it’s then if we think of it or have time for it.

Lamentations 3:22-24 offers a Valentine card back to us as a reminder of God’s standby love and constant care as a reminder of this unfailing and unending expression of real love that can’t be written as a verse in a card. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”

Today – and everyday – show love through kindness and care through the fruit of the Spirit of gentleness and self-control, faith, love, joy, peace, and patience. Everyday should carry a bit of the focus of the meaning we have adopted for Valentines Day and practice it every day as “Followers of Jesus”.

A song to listen to today is “Great is Our God”
