Cursed? or Blessed? Morning Devotions From the Edges

It is Not About the Curse

Prepared by Pastor Calvin Cook

Scripture focus – 1 Peter 3:14: But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled.

Some would say that the story of Joseph is about being cursed. Being beat up by the world, suffering more than anyone should suffer. However, in the ending chapters of Genesis, 46-50 we see examples of forgiveness, receiving blessings, and what being faithful and trusting God results in.

After a life of separation and what we would consider failures, Joseph is re-united with his father, becomes a powerful but gentle leader, forgives the ones who had brought the most harm to him, and encourages a whole nation to move forward in being faithful to the God of his ancestors, and the God of right now. Most importantly Joseph’s faith never wavered and Joseph never allowed doubt or the noise of the world to change his heart, mind, or soul.

As I thought on these chapters this morning, I thought about how many ways I have been blessed through my life in ways that I neither deserved nor expected. I have come to the place of realization that in the dark valleys of my life, I ventured there, and that God never had that plan for my life. I also realize that a continual search and focus of seeking righteousness will renew and strengthen me constantly, regardless of what is happening all around me.

If you feel like you are suffering from something this morning, I desperately want you to know, you are not alone. That you are loved and a magnificent creation of God. God is right there with you.

Praying that you without alarm or excuse will trust in God, your Savior , the one who will never fail, hurt, or abandon you. When you seek the Lord, the Lord will be found, seek with all your heart!
