Called by Name

Key Verse: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)
Today we begin a journey through Isaiah 43 as part of our Lenten journey of seeking holiness, healing, redemption, hope and a greater closeness to God. I think days this journey will be easy and other days it will be hard, but it will take a commitment of courage to find the reconciliation we all need.
Welcome to this journey, I’m glad to be on it with you. Though our faith and commitment to God is personal it also is of a community that moves together into the places of great value on loving God and loving neighbor in all that we do with the message that God plants deep in our heart and soul.
God’s love is deeply personal. He doesn’t merely call humanity as a whole—He calls each of us by name. Think on that for a minute, God knows your name, knows you intimately. The same as a parent knows their children, knows each of their children’s names, God desires that relationship with you, each of you, personally calling you and loving you. Being called by name signifies intimacy, care, and belonging.
Jesus demonstrates this in John 10:3, saying, “He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.” Through His death and resurrection, Jesus made a way for us to hear and respond to God’s call. That was the ultimate of the example “that God loved you so much, that He gave His one and only Son.” (John 3:16)
Do you hear God calling your name today? Are you feeling God’s embrace? Hearing God say I love you; you were bought with a price, I have redeemed you, you are mine. If not be encouraged to move into a place where you can.
Spend time in prayer, thanking God for God’s redeeming love and reflecting on what it means to belong to Him.
